Switching Up My Cardio: Women's March Oakland
My doctor told me I needed to switch up my cardio so I decided to go for a walk. Figured it was an easy way to get to 10,000 steps. I planned on stopping by to take a few photos then go home. I ended up marching for almost 4 hours. I went by myself because I didn't feel like coordinating and trying to find people in the crowd.
I stopped by the Women's March booth before walking. They had posters and markers for people to make signs. I saw only kids doing it but I asked if adults can make one and the attendant asked, "You're a kid aren't you?" I smiled and said, "At heart." I didn't know what to write so I just wrote the mantra my friend bought for my desk, What Would Beyonce Do? I walked around and people smiled and cheered me on. A few people came up to me and said, "What would she do? I don't get it?" I just asked what you think she would do and told them what one stranger told me, "To the left, to the left." People were yelling a lot of things at me like, "She would slay!", "She would call Solange to beat him up in a elevator!", "She would not perform at the inauguration", "We need her right now!" I'm glad I went because I didn't want to be one of those people who just post things and not doing anything. It was comforting to see so many people advocating for everyone's rights. A great reminder that, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."
